The new 2022 competitive season is looking to be a great year for Evil Geniuses. Some of the most exciting updates for fans are the new lineup, partnership with indie teams to make a training program, and getting a direct invite to a major event. Look forward to the following developments for your favorite team:
New Lineup for 2022 Competitive Season
There are three more openings in Evil Geniuses, with the departure of a few at the end of the 2021 season. Peter ‘Stanislaw’ Jarguz, Owen’ oBo’ Schlatter, and Michal’ MICHU’ Müller departed, followed by months of silence until Evil Geniuses’ tweet in December 2021.
Evil Geniuses ended the year 2021 with an announcement of getting a new head coach on board to help fill the new roster for 2022. This role is filled by Damien’ maLeK’ Marcel, who previously worked with G2 Esports CS: GO.
He is credited as one of the biggest contributors to the team’s consistent placements in the top three rankings of major tournaments.
Rumors that went viral on Twitter hinted at several names, and three of them were confirmed later as the new season began. Tweets from Evil Geniuses eventually welcomed the new shot-caller Jacky’ Stewie2k’ Yip as well as the two riflers Timothy’ automatic Ta and William’ RUSH’ Wierzba.
The remaining members of Evil Geniuses’ team include Vincent’ Brehze’ Cayonte and Tsvetelin’ CeRq’ Dimitrov, who joined EG together with Stanislaw in 2019. Both of them are among the most reliable pro players in CS: GO, making them great pillars to work with the new talents at EG.
Evil Geniuses Creating an Academy of CS: GO
The esports scene is highly competitive, and hundreds of teams try to qualify for the major leagues every year. However, those with no financial backing tend to break away after a few attempts. To prevent wasting talented individuals, Evil Geniuses, along with other prominent esports teams, have decided to build an academy team with Party Astronauts and Carpe Diem.
If the negotiation is successful, then one of them or both can be EG’s first academy team in the CS: GO, division. However, it’s a complex matter that requires time to consider as ESL only allows one team per organization to be fielded in the North American circuit. Party Astronauts and Carpe Diem are reluctant as they have an interest in joining major leagues where EG’s main team is likely to join in 2022.
Evil Geniuses Received a Direct Invite to Pinnacle Cup Championship
Pinnacle Cup Championship is an A-tier CS:GO major league tournament taking place in June 2022 at Sparbanken Skåne Arena in Lund, Sweden. It has a $250,000 prize pool and a total roster of 8 teams. Evil Geniuses is one of the teams that were given a direct invitation in May 2022, together with Astralis and Made in Brazil (MiBR).
They are joining teams Fnatic, Heroic, and Imperial Sports, who were already invited earlier in 2022. Two more are going to be announced before June for a total of 8 participants.
Take Away
Evil Geniuses are always among the top teams of the major leagues on all esports scenes. Their CS:GO division is especially well-known, but it struggled in the 2021 season. With the new roster, head coach, and current progress, it seems that 2022 is a great competitive season for EG.
They currently have a good momentum going in the first half of the year, and it is likely to be their year. Will the new lineup be enough to push the team further into becoming this year’s CS:GO champions? Only time will tell, so look forward to their matches.
