Psychonauts 2: Scavenger Hunt Guide
Psychonauts 2 is coming out later this year, and it is arguably the most anticipated game of the year. we’ve collected everything we know about the sequel so far, and we’ll keep updating it as we learn more. We’ll keep this post up to date with any new information we learn, and we’ll make sure to link to it at the end of this article. To make it easy for those of you who want to know now, we’ve collected everything we know into one helpful guide.
It’s the beginning of 2015, and I’m so excited to be sharing news of Psychonauts 2! You know, if you’ve been on the fence about waiting for the new game, you might want to consider jumping on the train now. The game is on its way, and you can preorder it right now on Steam.
The scavenger hunt given by Ranger Cruller in the original Psychonauts was one of the game’s most memorable sidequests. Not only was it a wonderful opportunity to develop new psychic abilities and learn to think outside the box, but nearly all of the things you had to retrieve were amusingly bizarre, ranging from a forgotten turkey sandwich in an underground refrigerator to a deceased miner’s skull stuck in a geyser. In Psychonauts 2, the scavenger hunt is back, and it’s just as fun (and sometimes terrifying) as it was in the previous game. Here’s all you need to know about the Psychonauts 2 treasure quest.
Raz will face Norma outside of Sasha’s office after Sasha provides him a fresh pair of clothing to rescue him from the other interns’ hazing routine. Norma will offer Raz an extra credit project, a list of “Mission Critical Psychonaut Assets,” in a half-hearted attempt to make apologies. In reality, it’s simply a list of random trinkets Hollis requested Norma collect, but if Raz performs her this totally undeserved favor, she’ll return his old clothing (provided she can fish them out of the garbage).
Scavenger Hunt for Psychonauts 2
Items from the Motherlobe
Plaque with the names of the Psychonauts
Let’s begin with the item nearest to the location where Norma offers you the list. A tiny door to the left of Sasha and Milla’s offices has a plaque identifying it as Coach Oleander’s office. Agents aren’t allowed to have name plaques on their doors, and Oleander is still on probation, so take it off now.
Sushi from the previous day
Here’s another simple one for you. The Noodle Bowl, a Motherlobe cafeteria, is worth a visit. The Day-Old Sushi may be found on the buffet bar across from the checkout, in all its rank splendor. It doesn’t seem like cleaning up should be Hollis’ responsibility.
Ice Cream for Astronauts
When you enter the Nerve Center, look for a computer station with a brilliant green screen. When you interact with the screen, it will switch off and another screen will appear somewhere else in the room. Continue interacting with the lighted displays until one on the far left wall lights up. When you interact with that one, Astronaut Ice Cream, everyone’s favorite dehydrated treat, appears.
a set of cards
It’s time to roll a few frames after assisting Compton and gaining entrance to the bowling lane using his senior league card. Pick up the bowling ball from the ball return and toss it down the alley to strike the pins using Telekinesis. You’ll need to roll three complete frames of shots, for a total of six; don’t worry if you’re not a great bowler; they don’t have to be strikes or anything. Instead of your ball, the Deck of Cards will come out of the ball return after the third frame. What sort of jackass returns a ball with a deck of cards in his hands?
Surveillance Device Used by the Enemy
This item can only be obtained after completing the game and accessing the post-game, since it needs the use of Cassie O’Peia’s Mental Projection. Return to the storage area that Raz was locked in at the start of the game by the other interns. On your right, beyond the Mindswarm banner, is a door with a mail slot. To summon your archetype and have him open the door for you, use Mental Projection. On the shelf to your left, you’ll find the Enemy Surveillance Device. This was apparently taken from a competing group, the Gastronauts, by the Psychonauts. Ew.
Items from the Quarry
Bomb that hasn’t detonated
This one will most likely be picked up on your route to the Questionable Area. You should notice a bonfire on the ground adjacent to a crane holding up a palette of planks just before the entrance to the Questionable Section, near the top of the Quarry’s back area. To obtain an updraft, light the campfire using Pyrokinesis and ride it up to the planks, where you’ll discover the Unexploded Bomb. It won’t go off in your rucksack, so don’t worry. Probably.
Knife made of psitanium
Ride the draft in the right-side tube from the Motherlobe’s front entrance to the walkway leading to Lili’s garden. A huge cave can be seen over the gap. To get to the cave, hop over the branches and pebbles, then use Levitation to leap up the stone pillars until you reach the Psitanium Knife at the top. It was apparently carved by a psychotic in solitary confinement. Neat!
Laserdisc for Agent Orientation
Cross the floating platforms that rise from the river to reach Otto’s laboratory on the opposite side of the Quarry proper. A chamber with an electric spark-covered floor may be found to the right of Otto’s desk. Fortunately, your Levitation bubble shields you from dangerous terrain, so just ride it over to collect the Agent Orientation Laserdisc, which is full of corporate-approved hazing rites.
Items in the Questionable Area
Skull of Man
A decrepit funicular may be found at the end of the Questionable Area’s left route. You’ll have to fix it by replacing the lost gears in the big machine board item to its right. The three gears are all close together, so you shouldn’t have to travel far to find them. The funicular will start up and resume its climb after you’ve fitted all three gears back in using Telekinesis. Obtain a seat on the cart and ride it until the other cart passes. Obtain the Human Skull from the other cart, which was probably left as an anti-funicular message.
a corn can
Near the Aquato family camp, enter the Sassclops cave. A campfire may be found on the ground inside, in front of the huge dinosaur fossil protruding from the wall. To locate the Can of Corn, light it using Pyrokinesis and ride the updraft to a stone ledge. According to Raz, it expired the same year he was born, indicating that it had been rotten for at least 10 years. Yikes.
Hatchet with a Switchblade
Before you may use this, you must have acquired the Time Bubble ability from the Brain in a Jar. Go to the middle of the Questionable Area, where there is a huge, fast-spinning water wheel. Use Time Bubble to slow the wheel’s spin, enabling you to ride the paddles up to the roof, where the Switchblade Hatchet may be found. You simply know this monster has taken a kid’s pinky.
Mug with a Difference
Visit the Lumberstack Diner, which is located immediately beyond the Questionable Area’s entrance. A door with a mail slot is located beyond where Sam is cooking her strange pancakes. With Mental Projection, summon your archetype to unlock the door and claim the Novelty Mug within. Why is it that it has two handles…?
Items from Green Needle Gulch
Murder Bug Bot in Miniature
Climb the ladder to the second story of Lucy’s home, then use Pyrokinesis to burn the vines that are obstructing the exit out onto the balcony. Follow the route around the balcony until you come across the Mini Murder Bug Bot, whose homicidal prowess seems to be grossly overstated.
Helmet of a Viking
On the way to Cassie’s home, look for Helmut Fullbear’s Theater. On the left side of the theater, there’s a tiny way around the back that’s hidden by some shrubs; follow the path to the rear of the van and you’ll discover one of Helmut’s ancient Viking Helmets. He’s got plenty more where that came from, so don’t worry.
My Phone Is Shaped Like A Beehive
Don’t stop at Cassie’s front door when you arrive to her home. Follow the honey-covered path around to the rear of the house, where you’ll see a beehive in the form of Hollis’ mobile phone on the ground. What can you do when bees become kleptomaniacs?
Mindswarm signed copy
Raz may ask Cassie to autograph his copy of her book, Mindswarm, for him when you first meet her at her home and speak to her. Don’t worry if you missed out on this chance. After beating the game, go find her at Compton’s menagerie near Bob’s greenhouse and ask her. Hollis had no idea how Norma was going to react to this.
Bring all of the things to Norma, who should be waiting outside the intern classroom if you’re in the post-game. You’ll be rewarded with Raz’s previous clothing, which you may change into in the cafeteria restroom. You may even change into the business clothing Raz wore in Loboto’s imagination, as well as his circus skivvies if you’re a freak, with the toilet open.
