With a plethora of gameplay elements to explore, there are plenty of reasons to play Dark Souls III for anyone looking for something fresh and engaging.,
There are many great anime to choose from but if you’re coming off Dark Souls 2, here is a list of some dark souls anime that might not be on your radar. This includes animes about humans vs demons or even just strong female leads who can hold their own against the dark fantasy world.
The “souls-like anime game” is a great anime for dark souls fans to check out. The anime has been created by the same person who made the popular dark souls series.
Some argue that if you haven’t played (or beaten) Dark Souls, you aren’t a genuine gamer.
And, to some degree, I believe they are correct! Dark Souls is, after all, one of the finest games of this decade.
It is without a doubt one of the most famous games of all time, and Hidetaka Miyazaki has beyond himself with the franchise.
With that in mind, what type of crossover might we see between Dark Souls (or the Soulsborne series) and anime fans?
So, here are some anime suggestions that we think might go well with the topic.
Akame ga Kill! is number ten.
One of the most action-packed fantasy/medieval anime shows ever made is here.
I would suggest Akame ga Kill! to everybody since it is a subversive masterpiece that throws you a curveball right from the first episode.
Don’t worry, I’m not going to give anything away here.
But let’s just say it starts off strong, establishing that this isn’t going to be another typical Shounen title.
From the start, it’s gloomy and realistic in the sense that none of the characters are protected from the possibility of dying horribly.
Now that I think about it, it reminds me of Game of Thrones, which makes sense given Hidetaka Miyazaki is a major admirer of George RR Martin. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for Elden Ring!
9. Titanic Assault
Another gloomy anime series set in a post-apocalyptic world invaded by man-eating giants is Attack on Titan.
It contains relatively little, if any, fantasy aspects, in comparison to Dark Souls.
Of course, there are the nude tall folks.
From depictions of day-to-day challenges to prominent characters dying suddenly, it’s as genuine as it gets.
What it shares with Dark Souls is a great utilization of dismal themes and images.
Few anime manage to capture the tiny sensation of dread that pervades every Dark Souls boss battle, but AoT does.
That alone tells a lot about how exciting this program is.
8. Slayer of Goblins
When it comes to gloomy anime shows,
The first episode of Goblin Slayer is nearly legendary for being one of the darkest and most messed-up ever.
“The only decent goblins are the ones that never come out of their nasty burrows,” the protagonist once stated.
And I think it’s reasonable to say that the first episode did a great job of emphasizing this idea.
The world of the Goblin Slayer is dark and terrifying, and this is evident immediately away.
The storyline lightens up a little as the series progresses, but the feeling of danger and dread is still there in each episode.
7. Is Trying to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon Wrong?
Let’s take a break from the sad anime series and look at something a little more upbeat, shall we?
If you like the RPG elements of Dark Souls, DanMachi (the show’s abbreviated Japanese title) is a game you’ll like.
The series’ plot isn’t horrible, but what makes DanMachi stand out is that it includes a variety of gaming components that will surely pique the curiosity of any gamer.
The audio and visual style are also excellent.
Not to add, if fanservice is your thing, it has a lot of it. There will be no judgement here!
6. Ultimate Hellsing
Hellsing Ultimate is one of those programs that simply comes alive once the main character is around.
There’s no avoiding it.
Alucard is the show’s star, and he wears it on his back.
Of course, the supporting cast is as engaging. However, there’s something about the swagger of this immortal centuries-old vampire that makes him stand out.
Hellsing Ultimate’s great music complements the whole “dark and frightening” vibe, much like Dark Souls.
Furthermore, the series has weird and unsettling imagery that nevertheless manages to come off as amazing and fantastic rather than repulsive.
For example, consider the scenario in when Alucard first unleashes Baskerville. That was merely a *chef’s kiss* scenario.
Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash are the fifth and sixth characters in the series.
Another laid-back yet surprisingly realistic fantasy animation has arrived.
Grimgar is, in my view, one of the most underappreciated Isekai games released in the last decade.
It clearly stands on its own in terms of plot, something I can’t say for the slew of Isekai anime that have lately been produced.
It’s realistic in the sense that danger and stakes for the main characters are constantly there, even if they aren’t as high as they are in some of the anime on this list.
And, although it has a lot of thrilling action sequences, it also has a lot of slice-of-life moments in between that keep the program from being monotonous.
In my opinion, it just added to the show’s freshness.
After all, I believe it offers a welcome diversion from the series’ more frenetic and dramatic story lines.
4. Lord Overlord
Another Isekai game that stands out as one of the most popular and well-crafted in its genre is Overlord.
It’s also one of the rare anime series in which the main character is an inhuman – Momonga.
Now, we may have spent endless hours in Dark Souls pawning (and dying to) undead adversaries, but Momonga is an eldritch behemoth that we will almost certainly never defeat.
Overlord isn’t the first anime to portray a tremendously overpowering protagonist (in fact, it’s far from it).
However, the program does an adequate job of presenting him and the supporting characters.
To put it simply, Overlord is the narrative of a person who becomes a monster.
Despite this, the narrative is more lighthearted than some of the other films on this list.
Claymore is number three.
Unfortunately for fans, Claymore will always be remembered as a series that had the potential to be one of the best.
It’s no surprise that the anime was prematurely terminated despite having a fantastic manga as an adaptation source.
Nonetheless, I believe it is a good game that I would have liked to see more of, since it reminded me of titles like Berserk and Goblin Slayer, which had Dark Souls-like pleasures.
On that topic, I strongly advise you to see this anime since it is absolutely fantastic.
Though it should be noted that the series’ conclusion may come off as hurried and lackluster, so watch it at your own risk.
2. Crybaby Devilman
With this series, we’re getting closer to the top, and we’ve got one of the edgiest and darkest anime titles of all time.
Of course, it would be a disgrace for me to claim that Devilman Crybaby is nothing more than this.
Like Dark Souls, it’s packed with action, drama, tragedy, and religious overtones.
It isn’t hesitant to explore darker, weirder ideas in order to produce a fascinating narrative.
It’s so good, in fact, that Miyazaki himself has verified that he puts copies of the manga at the top of his bookcase!
Is this to say that Miyazaki was influenced by the manga adaptation of this show? Although it’s a far shot, I notice some thematic parallels between Dark Souls and this anime.
Coincidence? I don’t believe so!
1. Berserk mode
The one and only Berserk -Kentaro Miura’s stunning magnum work and one of the most praised anime titles of all time – takes the top slot.
It’s also the only anime/manga series that has been verified to have inspired Hidetaka Miyazaki, not only for Dark Souls but for his previous games as well.
Now that I think about it, it’s very apparent.
What about the characters? What about the monsters?
Even the armors and weaponry, for that matter?
To be honest, they all seem like they’d fit in well in Lordran.
Even better, the series features the same grim yet compelling atmosphere and aesthetics of the Souls games.
This is particularly true in the anime’s latter arcs.
Finally, I can’t recommend this series highly enough. While you’re at it, I strongly advise you to read the manga as well. You will not be sorry!
