Preseason 13 Breakdown

Season 13 will be a blast, as Riot decided to bring back the Chemtech Drake, jungle pets, and many old-school items such as Rod of Ages, Spear of Shojin, Iceborn Gauntlet, and a slew of other novelties! Apart from that, Pings will receive a neat polish, alternate communication options, off-screen indicators showing from which direction pings come, and vision pings. In the pre-game lobby, players will get to choose a recommended Rune Page and Summoner Spells, while in-game, they will receive suggestions on which abilities to level up first. On top of all that, junglers will be presented with unique mini-map icons showing jungle paths most suitable for their champion. Finally, top and bot laners and mid laners will receive various XP and minion gold changes.

Season 13 Communication

Since League of Legends prides itself on teamplay, pings are getting love too! Apart from regular pings, there will be four new ones signaling Push, Bait, Hold, and All-In actions. Furthermore, all pings will receive updated animations and sound effects. In addition, a completely new Vision Ping wheel is also making its way to League.

Players will now have a chance to communicate about objectives by voting on whether they want to go for the objective or retreat. Moreover, once pings appear on the map, the player screen’s edge will indicate from which direction the ping came off-screen. Assist Me, Hold, All-In, On My Way, Retreat, and Push pings will only be displayed within 3000 units to reduce on-screen distractions, while Enemy Missing will always be displayed regardless of range. The new ping system will also allow players to track enemy ward timers. For example, pinging an enemy ward within 10 seconds of being placed will spawn a ward timer showing the exact timer. On the other hand, friendly wards will display icons on the mini-map to show which wards are 60 or 30 seconds away from expiring.

Jungle in Season 13

Jungle Pets and Avatar Smites are making their way to League, being obtainable through the in-game store. In addition, pets will gather treats throughout jungle clears and evolve after accumulating enough treats to grant Avatar buffs to their players.

Here’s the list of available pets and their functions:

  • Ixtali Ixamander – shields the player, once broken, grants Tenacity and slow resistance; tanks will enjoy this pet.
  • Noxian Embercat – slows enemies and deals damage; perfect for aggressive junglers.
  • Ionian Cloudleaper – ideal for active junglers as it provides bonus movement speed.

The discontinued Chemtech Drake is back, offering a new buff and soul. Once players slay the Chemtech Drake, they will receive a set amount of Tenacity and Heal and Shield power. Moreover, getting the Chemtech Soul will award players with extra damage to low-health targets. Finally, Drake’s Soul will engulf the Rift, augmenting jungle plants with Zaunite chemicals:

  • Honey Fruits – chemicals turn them into Stim Fruits, offering a shield on top of the heal but removing the slow when consumed.
  • Blast Cones – the blast range is doubled.
  • Scryer’s Bloom – transforms into Stalker’s Bloom, revealing a circular area around the plant and in a cone opposite the player. Grants movement speed towards revealed champions and lowers revealed wards’ HP to 1.

Riot will introduce the Leash Range Indicators feature to help new players quickly adapt to the jungle. The indicators will display how far camps can stray from their spawn points. In addition, Riot will reduce the camp pull distance to make the jungle a bit more challenging.

S13 Recommendations

Why do in-game Item recommendations only exist? Why not have a complete Rune Page and Summoner Spell assistance? Well, this time around, Riot thought about everything. As a result, the new Season 13 will bring optional Summoner Spell and Rune Page suggestions next to the edit Rune Page button. There will be three available options for each. On top of this, Riot will also incorporate in-game recommendations about ability level-ups!

Lane Novelties in Season 13

As mentioned above, laners will get their fair share of updates, focusing mainly on helping top laners scale and reach their power spikes sooner than other lanes. With this in mind, the following changes will take effect:

  • Mid Lane – minions spawned on Mid will lose one gold of value before the 14-minute mark as opposed to before when cannon minions were worth ten gold less than other lanes’ cannons.

  • Solo Lane – solo laners, predominant on Top and Mid, will get 95% experience from minions instead of 93%.
  • Duo Lane – Bot laners or any other duo lane will receive 22% experience from minions rather than 24.73%.

S10 Revenants and Other Item Updates

New items are being added to League, while some existing ones are being adjusted. Aside from these, a couple of old, much-loved items are returning! Rod of Ages, Catalyst of Aeons, Iceborn Gauntlet, and Spear of Shojin have returned with similar stats and Mythic benefits for RoA and Iceborn. Furthermore, certain Mythic items have lost their Mythic status and have been redefined as Legendary items.
